Mr. X's Release

 photo RDLBanner.png

This is not your average romance story. Some people will kill for love.

He’s come to kill me. I’m a user and abuser of my own body. In the darkest hour I sold my soul to the devil and now I must pay the price. With his gun to my head I have no choice but to listen and obey, but I refuse to go down easily. Nothing is stronger than the will to survive. My instincts kicked into full gear the second he stepped into my motel room. Except when I look at him I see my own heart staring back at me. A history tainted by blood. I don’t know his name, but I know he wants me. To save myself I’ll sacrifice my sanity. My body. My soul. Something tells me the x-shaped scar that marks his eye is the only escape I have. He is Mr. X; the man who comes to claim my life. Can I save myself before he demands my heart?

WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, breath deprivation, strong language, drugs and alcohol, and graphic violence, which may be considered triggers.

Uninhibited - The Callahan Series

 photo 22603776.jpg

Alicia lives life by the rules. She has a successful career, friends, a family that loves her and she has been in love with her perfect guy for 3 plus years. The problem is that her perfect guy, Hunter, is one of her best friends and has no clue... oh and he's about to get married to another woman.  Alicia, being who she is, actually likes the fiance and rather than finally confessing her feelings to Hunter, she struggles to try to forget him and move on. When the chance to do just that appears and gets her all fired up she then has to fight the guilt that keeps rearing up it's ugly head to cool things down.

Dex Callahan is a bad boy rocker who is itching to get back into the scene but is afraid that it will take over his life once again. He's been there, done that and lost a few things along the way; including himself and a fellow band mate. Nothing gives him the rush that being on the stage in front of a sea of screaming fans does. Well, he thought there was nothing that could provide that rush but he soon finds out he was wrong. Dex comes across just the thing he needs that not only provides the rush but just may also be the balm he's been missing that can keep the rush in control should he give into the itch of going back on stage.

This is the first book that I've read by Melody Grace but it's actually the 2nd book in a spin-off series from the Beachwood Bay series. Book 1 is Unrequited:

 photo 22018783.jpg

You don't have to read them in order or anything but Unrequited is currently free on Amazon so why not pick it up and read it before Uninhibited is available? It's about 100 pages and sets up Uninhibited so that you get a little of the back story for the scene that you are brought into. In the first few chapters of Uninhibited you may think that it feels rushed and leaves you wondering exactly what happened but don't fret, Unrequited tells you so if you get that read in first then you are ahead of the game. I definitely went back to read it cause I needed to know more! I also now need to read the rest of the Beachwood Bay series to get the scoop on Hunter and some of the other Beachwood Bay locals.

It all begins with Untouched, which is  also currently free on Amazon so get it while the getting's good!

 photo 17667474-1.jpg

Ok, so back to the Callahan series. You can click on the book pics and links I've provided above to get the official book blurbs where you are given a little more detail on the opening scene and how exactly Alicia and Dex meet. There are links listed below also.  I figured I'd provide more of my own spin on it all here rather than repeat all that cause I tend to get wordy as it is.  I will say that it's not often that I feel the male character in a book is just too good. I'm seriously rethinking the number of stars I've given this book! The more I think about it the more I have to admit that when Dex Callahan whispers all that he wants to do to help Alicia out with her man problems, I seriously felt like it was my ear that was being whispered into. I don't know about you but when done right I just get the chills in all the right ways. With the right imagination and this book, yeah.... you could feel it too for sure!

Yes, it's official, I'm changing my rating on Unrequited and Uninhibited to 5 star and adding it to my favorites on Goodreads!

The ending of this book not only surprised me but left me wanting more, Tracy Wolff ROCKS!

Chloe is a 20 something aspiring lawyer who has just gotten a coveted internship in the intellectual property department at Frost Industries, a biomedical corporation. She has a past that haunts her as she tries to escape the limits it’s placed on her both physically and emotionally. Being that she’s working an internship that will not allow much time for a paying job, she doesn’t have much for financial stability so she lives with her best friend from college, Tori, who has issues of her own but a trust fund to provide more than enough to keep them with a roof over their heads.

Ethan Frost is on his way to being a billionaire. He's the charismatic founder and CEO of Frost Industries. Brought up by his grandparents, because his father died and his mother was pretty much out of the picture by then, he created the company in hopes of bettering the lives of people suffering from various conditions/injuries. This he does in the honor of his father. He’s a man who knows what he wants and goes after it with a conviction and passion while keeping the greater good in mind as he does.

A chance encounter provides the occasion where Chloe and Ethan first meet. While they don’t really realize who it is they are meeting at the time, neither of them can get the other out of their mind afterwards. Ethan’s advantage in the situation allows for him to identify who Chloe is and so the pursuit begins. Once Chloe realizes that it’s Ethan Frost that she has, unknowingly, been thinking about she is determined to put an end to that… and so the chase begins. She quickly discovers that their attraction is too strong to shake and finds that she is surprisingly more comfortable with Ethan than she has been with any male since a tragic occurrence in her past. Ethan will not let her get away easily and he pulls out all stops on trying to get her to give them a chance. Of course because he’s Ethan Frost and she is an internship for his corporation, her fellow peers snub and harass her for what they feel is favoritism, bringing back some hurtful memories from her past.

As the story goes on we find that there are ghosts in Chloe’s past, that are eventually uncovered, but there are also some in Ethan’s which aren’t as quick to make their appearance. There are hints and such for Chloe’s so you can sort of guess what the deal is however, when she finally let’s Ethan in on her past you find that there are some nuances that may surprise in regards to what really happened. The story is told from Chloe’s point of view so as the reader you get the details on her past but she only provides Ethan with the overall event and leaves out some of the details that she feels more shamed about. The 2 of them bond over that however Ethan doesn’t really share much of his past and Chloe begins to realize that there have been signs of something he keeps hidden so she decides she needs to try to get him to open up. Soon the occasion to do so arises and Ethan tries to push her away however, as heated and angry as things get the 2 of them find that it only provides fuel to their explosive attraction and they just can’t walk away.

The story ends with a shocking turn of events that I for one didn’t even have on my radar and I’m normally pretty good at figuring things out. It wasn’t the first surprise in the book but it is what pushed this to a 5 star read for me and it makes me want to get my hands on the next book in the series, Addicted, ASAP!

Ruined is likened to Fifty Shades of Grey, and books of that nature, however while there is a strong dominant male he is much more likable and less domineering than the males in the other books. There is also not BDSM but there are some slight hints to some aspects of it and I liked this read more than Fifty Shades.  Rest assured, there are some steamy scenes and the characters are easy to enjoy. I definitely recommend this book, if erotica is within your comfort zone... even if it's not!

Breathless for Him

 photo 20761717.jpg

Allegra is a music student with a passion for opera. Stemming from a family with a rich Italian history that was basis of her upbringing she gained a rich appreciation for the music from her mother. After some tragic events Allegra made some life altering decisions and one of them brought her down the path of becoming an opera singer.

Davison comes from a wealthy upbringing, he's a successful business man, and he's expected to marry a woman he doesn't really like. He finds himself restless and looking for something more until one day when he goes searching for his lost driving glove and finds himself so much more.

Allegra and Davison's paths cross while she is working the coat check at a restaurant that he frequents. He comes on pretty strong and is very sure of himself, which all piques Allegra's interest and fuels her desire for him. The 2 of them are drawn to each other and begin seeing one another as they help each other get through some things in their lives.

As I read this book I found Davison to be a little too perfect. I kept waiting for something to happen that would take away from that image somewhat but it never came. It's Allegra who has the past that she fears getting out because of what it may bring. There was some mystery around her background but it felt like she seemed to make it a bigger deal than it was. It's a good read that kept my interest and had its steamy moments but I just kept feeling like there was more that I needed from it.

This is Sofia Tate's debut and it's the first book in a series, the 2nd is slated to come out in December and is called Devoted to Him.  I'll be on the lookout for it to see how things build from here.

F.A.S.T. Shot of Relief

 photo bd924c51-7851-4c58-8c71-e2d313716696.jpg

I participate in the Influenster program and was lucky enough to receive the #SurfsUpVoxBox that they were sending out with the fun summer products to test and review. Each box had First Aid Shot Therapy in it (F.A.S.T.) for those of us that received the box to check out.

I'm not one to have much pain that requires any sort of medication to relieve it so I wasn't so sure I'd be able to use this. My boyfriend experiences a lot of pain so I was going to have him try it and then sort of interview him but then I read all the info closely and found it may not be good for those that avoid Aspirin or have ulcers. Well, he has a few issues with those things so I figured it would be best to wait until I could use it myself.

I have a tendency to clench my teeth as I sleep sometimes and that leads to me waking up with a headache and jaw pains. Usually it goes away after I'm up for a while but sometimes it hangs on and I take Ibuprofen or something along those lines. Today I had the headache that hung on. There was no jaw pain but for some unknown reason my arms were having some pains that felt like muscle strain type pains. I really hate muscle pains, more than headaches! The combination of the 2 reminded me that I had F.A.S.T. to try out so down the hatch it went!

 photo BrwvJUBCcAA5nhT-1.jpg

Well, first I had to give it a smell that is. I can't just drink it without knowing what to expect. It says that it's a berry flavor and it's mostly caffeine so I figured it wouldn't really have that 'medicine' like flavor to it. I was afraid it would be really overly sweet but the smell made it seem like it would be very light with no strong, lingering flavor/after taste.  So then down the hatch it went.

I was actually pleasantly pleased with the taste. It was very light, not overly sweet, and there was a light cherry like flavor to it. There was no medicine like taste what so ever and no bad after taste.  I would say that it took care of the headache pretty quickly. I lost track of time but it was probably within minutes that it tackled that headache and I was no longer feeling that pain. The muscle pain was different, that lingered for a while.

I did find myself taking a nap a few hours after I took F.A.S.T. I'm not usually one to take naps so I'm not sure if that was the result of the product or if it was just cause I woke up early and maybe didn't sleep well since I obviously had the clenching going on. Either way, after I woke up from the nap I was still feeling a slight pain in the arms but not as strong and about an hour later no more pain at all.

It worked out pretty well and would probably do wonders for those who don't like to take pills or who want to stay away from pills.  I'd say it's worth giving a shot if you are one that may experience any minor type pains that you find yourself seeking over the counter relief for. If you click on the pictures above you'll be brought to a few sites where you can check out more information on the product and purchase if you're interested. You can also check them out on Facebook @Firstaidshottherapy.

A Head Full of Happy Hair!

 photo 10463973_10202378577849378_6513365372569102012_n.jpg

I was lucky enough to receive the #SurfsUpVoxBox from Influenster recently and in the box I got the trail sized conditioner and shampoo from Not Your Mother's.  Being someone with very thin, limp hair that tends to frizz and can sometimes look oily who has tried many products in the past, I was pretty skeptical about this one doing much for me. I was thinking that a trial size really wouldn't give me much to work with as far as seeing results, I mean don't you need to trial something out for a while to really know how it works? Well, I have to admit that I was quite surprised buy this product!

Now granted, I'm not one to use conditioner. I don't have the patience for the whole routine of washing then conditioning. That could be part of my problem with the state of my hair. It feels straw like and seems to have a lot of breakage lately, even though I don't use a hairdryer any longer and only a small amount of styling product. In the past when I did use conditioner it only seemed that it had a hand in weighing down my hair because my hair seemed less limp without using it.

I decided to be open minded and used both the shampoo and conditioner here. First of all they smell awesome! There is a coconut smell to them and I am a big fan of all that is coconut.  The shampoo lathered up nicely, smelled great the whole time I was washing and massaging my scalp. I rinsed that out well and applied the conditioner next. It also had a coconut smell, however not quite as strong as the shampoo. Massaged that in and waited a few minutes to finally rinse it out. As I was rinsing I already felt the silky difference in the feel of my hair!

I towel dried my hair, brushed it out and then let it dry from there without adding any product or anything. Usually once the hair dries it's thin, limp and lifeless but not this time! I found that it looked like had a whole lot more hair, it was soft, it smelled great and I couldn't stop touching it! The smell of the shampoo and conditioner hung on for quite a while and then I probably just got to a point where I was used to it so I just noticed it less. A couple days later I used my old shampoo and POOF, away when the life that NYM added to my hair a few days earlier. Washed and conditioned again with NYM and once again I had a head full of happy, soft hair. There were no waves in my hair from the product but since my hair is so straight I wasn't really expecting it to do miracles to that effect.

My end result is that I love this product and I definitely will be buying me some full size products soon to use on a daily basis! I would recommend this product to anyone and I already have mentioned it to a friend who was interested in it and may already be using it daily herself.  Definitely give this product a try, it can be purchased through some online sellers and places like CVS. If you click on the picture above and the one below it will bring you to a few sites that you can more info through or make a purchase.

Libby’s fear paralyzes her as she comes face to face with her demons and, determined to stay strong, she battles for a way out. Could dealing with their pasts really give them a future?

My Review

I enjoyed this read. I liked the mixture of the love story, the personal struggles and the little bit of a mystery that you can work out throughout the story. Both Libby an Taylor have things in their past that they aren't too proud of and while Taylor seems to be more open to sharing his Libby is still cautious when it comes to sharing hers. The 2 come together and become each others salvation but each fear that they depend on the other too much. There is the fear that Taylor will soon return home since his stay on the ranch was intended to simply be his recovery period. The ranch is home for Libby and her son, her safety zone and she she fears having to leave that behind. Eventually events take place that make her second guess staying on the ranch however it's not at the benefit of Taylor, it's more to keep him safe. Taylor also has his decisions to make as he does actually return home for his brother's wedding.  Will the 2 find their way, will their pasts separate them for good.... or will they be their own reason for separation?

This was the first book I've read by this author but it's actually the 2nd book in a series so I look forward to reading the first one, Beneath the Surface soon!

Hollywood Scandal

 photo 22236409.jpg

Dr. Calla Roberts is a Hollywood plastic surgeon although it's not exactly by her choice. Much happier as a plastic surgeon in programs like Doctors Without Borders or providing her services to a local free/low income type clinic, she has responsibilities that limit the time she can spend on that. Spending all her time on helping those in need and earning money helping those that just 'want' there is little time for relationships of any kind. Then one day the world of the vain and the meek collide and Dr. Roberts is stuck in the middle but fighting for the meek.

L.A. Lawyer, Alex Hardy has the rather unique trait of being completely honest. Because of that he can come off quite abrasive and irritating. He comes from a Hollywood family where he lived through all the lies and scandal that can be brought from that. Love has been one of those things that he cannot trust from most of the women he's seen throughout his life because most of them were either focused on his money or the Hollywood connections. His current mission is to find out who is leaking pictures and information on those seen at a local plastic surgery clinic. It just so happens to be the clinic Dr. Roberts works at and she just so happens to be his main suspect.

Calla and Alex meet under more negative circumstances but once Alex decides she isn't involved in the leak of information from the clinic he becomes rather intrigued by her. The 2 have a great chemistry and even though Alex irritates Calla at first, she soon comes to respect his honesty and appreciates the fact that there is someone who wants to help her. She's been the one to take care of herself and her brother since her parents died and relishes in the fact that now there is someone willing to help her. Things get a little crazy with a Hollywood actor harassing her and to combat that Calla and Alex fake a relationship that ends up morphing into reality in the land of make believe.

There is a lot of heart in this read! It's the first book I've read by Julie Rowe but it's actually 3rd in a series so I will definitely need to read the first 2:

I leave you with my favorite passage from the book:

“She liked his honesty? "Why?" "Because it's part of who you are, a person you're comfortable with. Most of the time, I see people who don't like themselves, so they seek to change or alter their appearance, which is an insidious sort of lie. Reshaping their nose or chin or lips is the easy way, but it doesn't really work.”
