Paintapalooza

Photobucket

I'm joining Dazee Dreamer, from Crazy Daze & Nite Dreams, & Christy, from My Mad Mind, in their I Spy picture blogging fun.... you should too!  Each week there is a theme that you provide a photo, or photos for, and it's as creative as you want it to be with that theme. There is also a bloggers' choice photo op where you just share whatever your heart, or camera lens, desires. Your photos don't have to be professional, just capture what you think fits the theme & blog about it. You don't even need a camera per say, use the one in your phone.... everyone has one of those now a days right??  You then link up with the group each week to share your view. You can click on the cute froggie pic up there to be brought to the blog. Also, check out Christy's & Dazee's blogs, they always have some fun and creative stuff.  Ok, on with the picture show.....

This week's theme is PAINT! So here is what I have for ya....

Painted toenails. Cute right? I had a couple little visits to the nail salon to have someone else paint them for me.  Hey, you even get a shot of the tattoos there which is also sort of like painting huh??  No you say? Well I beg to differ and I have about 23 or so of them so maybe I'll share more of those another time when the theme fits better then:-) Ok, so on the trip of the toenails I also had the fingernails done:

Cute right? Yes, purple is my favorite color. Yes those are my real nails also:-) Ok and yest my fingers look mighty pudgy and old!  LOL!! Now the problem with getting the nails professionally painted is that it can be quite pricey and it doesn't last very long. Since they are my real nails the polish tends to wear off quicker than it seems to on the acrylic ones. So this past summer I decided to try some of the peal and stick, do it yourself, paint your nails kits:

Fun right?? There's the lovely bejeweled look and the peacocking look. How about that fancy ring there on the bejewled paint job? Nice match huh?? I'm not skilled when it comes to nails so I had a hard time getting used to the peal and stick stuff but once I got it down it wasn't so bad. You just stick it on and shape it. It's a sticker that goes right on your natural, or fake, nails. Again, the nails are all natural and were getting quite long. These sticker paints actually lasted a couple weeks. Now the directions say to remove it with nail polish remover when you are ready to take it off and I learned the hard way, or should say was reminded the hard way, that directions are meant to be followed. After peeling off the paint, rather than using polish remover, I pretty much ruined my lovely long nails. I had to cut them down to stubbins and now am letting them grow out the nail that was covered up. Peeling the paint seemed to take some layers of my nails or something, they chip and peel on their own now as they grow through their awkward recovery phase. It's so hard to deal with the stubbins now, scratching just isn't as rewarding as it once was!

Ok, now for blogger's choice. Every now and then I am out and about in my neighborhood, or the neighboring neighborhoods, and I happen to see this vehicle:

Groovy right? Can you believe it's actually owned by a church group of some sort? I can't remember the name now but there was a little sign on the other side. Is it just me or do you wonder how the heck they got that twisted all up to have it tye dyed so nicely??  LOL!

Ok, now just for a little extra something I'm going to leave you with these:

It's like a painting in the sky:-) These are a couple shots I caught of the fireworks on 8/29/12 at the Mn State Fair. It was after the Motley Crue/Kiss concert. They turned out pretty good, I was surprised cause they are taken with my iPhone and I usually have bad luck getting good night photos.

Ok, I guess I'm done for this week's paintapalooza. Do click on the froggie up above there to check out the other entries, link one up of your own and then tune in next ween when the theme is LOOK UP!

Defunct Teaster

I've always found that I like the smell of coffee, any coffee really, but the taste I don't enjoy so much. This brings me to wonder why that is? You'd think if the smell is good then the taste should match right? Well, obviously the taste matches for some cause millions drink it and enjoy it so maybe my taster is broken. Then I think that maybe it's a conditioned thing and the people that say they enjoy it don't really or maybe, just maybe, it's their taster that's broken? I'm not sure which it is really but it's put me on a quest in life in regards to coffee.

Ok, maybe not a quest really but I have found that over the years I've kept trying to get myself to like coffee. Why, I'm really not sure. The caffeine does nothing for me, I don't really enjoy the taste, if I have too much I get heartburn, yadda yadda yadda. I think it's the warming, comfort of it when it begins getting cold. It's like hot cocoa, which also gives me heartburn... LOL! Anyways, I've tried lots of coffee and what I've come to find is if it's ice cream then it's in, if it's made by Caribou and it's loaded with all the sweet stuff that makes it taste like melted ice cream then it's in, if I try to make my own or it's not Caribou'd out then it's just not working for me.

So the moral of the story is coffee, smells great and tastes good when tricked out. Doesn't energize me, wake me up, or help me lose weight... in fact, because it's tricked out it's hinders the weight loss and makes me gain even. So now that it's getting chilly again and I'll be looking for warm beverages to take that chill out in the mornings, I think it's back to my search of a good tea to drink! Tea is much better for me, this I know. Again, it doesn't energize me or wake me up but this can aid in weight loss... or so it's said, when you drink the right kinds. The problem is it tastes like hot water with a hint of flavor that rarely tastes like what it should... or what I think it should. Sometimes it smells good but again doesn't taste so good to me. Which just brings me back to wondering if my problem is just a broken taster?? In regards to tea would that be a broken teaster?? ;-)

So the mission is to find some good tea before the cold gets colder so I have a remedy for the bone chills. Any suggestions?? On teas or how to fix a defunct teaster??

Space Invader

This week's theme is SPACE! So here is what I have for ya....

That there is... well some kind of bear (maybe brown) in it's man made 'natural' space. I took this picture this summer on a visit to the Minnesota Zoo. Unfortunately I had to snap the photo while standing behind 2 people who were hogging all the space to get a good view and because we are on the inside looking out... you see that little white spot on the poor bear's face from the camera flash. It's really a beautiful habitat that they've made for the bears to enjoy, it's a shame I had the space hoggers blocking it so that I couldn't get a better shot. There is even a volcano that erupts every so often! Regardless, it's one of my favorite zoo photos cause it's not often that I get to capture the animals at the Mn Zoo.... they have so much space to roam they are often hard to spot!

So there you saw some living space, man made 'natural' space & people hogging space all in 1 photo. Let's not let the fun stop there though... oh nooooo.... I've got more!

I love me some nature photos and these here are me invading space:-) You see last year I had to do some yard work and as I was hacking and cutting bushes and weeds to make a much nicer, cleaner, lovely, enjoyable space I came across these critters.

The first photo there are some grasshoppers. Now that bottom one was huge, the photo just doesn't do it justice! I'm not sure what the deal was but there were several coupled up hoppers hiding in the tree here that I ended up hacking away once I got them all out of the way. I kindly coaxed them into a more grasshopper friendly space, no grasshoppers were harmed while taking the photos or chopping down what I think was their mating space.

The second photo is a nest of baby birdies that was nestled in the bush. Man, birds will make their nests in the darnedest spaces. Needless to say I invaded their space daily until they got sick of me and moved on to a greater space...known as the sky:-) They were pretty cute and I never harmed or touched one. I kept my distance, which is just space;-)

Wait, I have one more for ya... yeah sometimes I'm an over achiever:-)

This was the view outside my window from my cube at work for quite a while.  Spidy there was invading my space... eventhough we had glass between us. Actually that's what made it bearable. I'm not afraid of bugs at all, as long as they stay in their space and their space isn't on me without my saying so. This spider was huge and hung out for weeks and then all of a sudden one morning I came in & he was gone. Guess he packed up and moved on. That's what I choose to believe... we sort of bonded;-)

Ok, now for my blogger's choice photo. Last Sunday I went to the Jason Mraz concert at the Target Center. I had seen him in an outdoor concert last summer and loved it so I decided to checkout this indoor one this year and I loved it even more! The man can definitely sing and is so very clever with the wordplay.  Christina Perri opened for him and I wasn't very familiar with her but she has an awesome voice and was excellent! It's always worth the money to go to a concert where the artists are natural born singers and sound like they do on the radio, if not better! No amped up vocals for either of them, they were both awesome. Now there was a big stage where Jason Mraz and his band were all spread out but at one point they all gathered in a little corner space of the stage and did a few songs with minimal instruments. I was lucky enough to have excellent, 3rd row seats and was able to get a pretty good shot with the camera phone:

Sorta good right? Jason is sitting on the stool there in all his barefoot glory. He doesn't wear shoes during his concerts. He's all about being natural and green & stuff:-) I didn't actually take this photo, the boyfriend did. I had a tall dude in front of me who's head was right in the way of the view of Jason when I tried and the boyfriend is taller so it worked out better for him to snap it. It's a little blurry but all those stage lights make it so I never seem to get good photos. Anyways, you get the gist. I suggest that you see him in concert if he's ever in your area and you enjoy his tunage:-)

Ok, that's the end of the fun for this week.... but it doesn't have to be... you can always click on the froggie up there in the beginning to go check out the links to the other blogger's space photos. Come on, you know you want to get all up in their space to see what their view of space is:-) Then you should share some space of your own and tune in next week when the theme is PAINT!

SA-WEET!

This week's theme is SWEET! So here is what I have for ya....

Cool right?? One could actually say SA-WEEET! That would cover both the slang for cool and the fact that it is indeed sweet. That there is the Statue of Liberty made entirely out of Jelly Belly jelly beans. Then of course it's surrounded by other lovey sweeties. This picture I snapped while on vacation in Las Vegas back in Sept of 2011. I can't remember for sure which casino this candy store was in but I'm thinking the safe bet is New York New York. It was on the sky walk level, we were probably making out way to MGM or visa-versa. We were in that area a lot! All I have to say is it had to take a long time to make that masterpiece and I wonder how many jelly beans the person doing it ate and if they ever went into sugar shock??

Ok, now I'm doing extra credit here because while I was going through my picture files to find the Lady Liberty photo I came a cross these 2 pictures also:

What are these you ask? Well they are healthy SWEET treats:-) I figured I showed the unhealthier ones and since I'm trying to bring healthy back (for me) I would share some healthier ones. Yeah, I said it... I'm bringing healthy back! I even wrote an Weird Al(esk) type song about it using the music from I'm Bringing Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake. You can check it out here if you want too... it's pretty SA-WEET if I do say so myself:-)

Ok, the first picture there is one of my favorite snacks. As you can see it's freeze dried pineapple and it's so flavorful! These are little chunks of pineapple that have been dried in a way that they are not chewy they are crunchy but they almost melt in your mouth and they are very flavorful. They are excellent and I get them at Byerlys, if you have those near you. Here is what they actually look like:

They may look a little freaky but trust me they are SA-WEET, in all meanings of the word:-) Ok, that next picture up there is fruit nachos. Yep that's right, you heard me... or read it. It's all fruit, with the exception of the whiter stuff on the lower right of the page, that's yogurt that I used to be the faux sour cream. The stuff that looks like shredded cheese, that's shredded mango:-) The chips, banana chips:-) I used blackberries to look like meat, kiwi to get some green like lettuce, strawberries for the red like tomatoes and then there is some honey and lemon juice mixed in for flavoring. The lower left of the place is the salsa which is a blended mixture of berries. It's pretty taste and you can use pretty much whatever combination of fruit you want really so it's fun.

Well, that's all I have for you on sweet unless you consider my blogger's choice picture to be sweet that is:

I do but she's my baby:-) That's Mogli and she's posing with a plush toy that goes by the name of Petey P Cup. He's the mascot for a local health insurance and the toy was given out at a Saints baseball game. Mogli there kinda stole it cause she thought it was for her. She just cuddled with it though cause she is such a sweetie and she's not into chewing them up. Now if my other dog Karma got her little jaws on it, she would have pulled it apart! She loves to pull all the stuffing out, unless there is a squeaker. If there is a squeaker in it then it's that first and then the stuffing. Hard to keep toys around for that one but Mogli, she just poses all photogenic like:-)

Ok, that's it for this week friends. As always, click on the froggie above to check out the other entries for this week and then post one of your own. Tune in next week when the theme is SPACE!

Mmmmm Beeeeerrrrr!

Today was the Mill City Suds Run, or the Beer Run as it may also be affectionately called. This was a 5K that began and ended as the Father Hennepin Park in Minneapolis. We had a very beautiful day for it too! The hot, humid weather had been gone for the last 2 days so today it was sunny and perfect weather for a nice walk in the park.

I am still trying to deal with my ankle and foot from the 5 & 10K's that I did last week so I couldn't complete the full 5K today. I took the little shortcut, figuring that it was a fun run so why not take it easy on this one?? So at the end of mile 2 was the first beer stop and I hung out there with my friend's hubby drinking my beer as I waited for my friend who didn't take the short cut. Then we finished out the last mile all together. I think I made up the mile by walking to & from my car at least so that's good. My fitbit says I was over 3 miles by the time I got home so I may not have done the full 5K but I did a 5K in the end... LOL!

Now as I mentioned, this was a fun run. It wasn't timed and you could dress up or bring dogs or kids. We got the great shirt you see up above there. That's actually the back of it and on the front it just says O'Donovan's Irish Pub Suds Run. It's my favorite shirt to date I think for all the K's I've participated it cause I love the beer mug in the shape of Minnesota. Then we got the beer glass also. The funny thing is that I don't even like beer... LOL! I'm working on it sort of though, a girl has to have goals:-)  Anyways, I thought I'd share a few of the costume photos I took as we waited in line for our last beer and our brat.  So here are 2 of my favs:

The first is a group of ostrich jockeys. I thought that was great, loved the costume. The 2nd there are trolls and I really only coveted their wigs.... I really want one! I love trolls!!

Ok, this next picture... I'm not sure what he was supposed to be but I think he forgot to put his pants on!

He does appear to have underwear on under those yellow bloomers though so I guess those are his pants? LOL.... I just laughed about as hard as that little girl you see to the left there so I had to snap a photo!

All in all it was good times and now I need to rest up so I can head out for bowling night, the league is starting up tonight so every other Saturday is now bowling night, WOOT! I leave you with a lovely view of the river that I snapped during my 5K today:

Cute as a Button!

This week's theme is BUTTON! So here is what I have for ya....

It's a 2fer and a spin on the word button cause those 2 up there, they are cute as a button:-) The first picture is a little hedgehog statue that my boyfriend gave me for our 3 year anniversary, which was today. I keep saying that I want a hedgehog, you know... cause they are cute as a button, and he thinks I'm nuts and they are too expensive. That and that I already have enough pets so he got me the cute little button up there in hopes to fulfill my want of a pet hedgehog. Little did he know that I probably never would really buy one... OK, I would but after I pay off some debt so the gift will do for now.

The 2nd pic is the cute as a button bunny that was blinded by the light... and it wasn't wrapped up like a douche... or revved up like a deuce... OK, reaching for a laugh there maybe. LOL... he was stunned by the headlights though. He was sitting there when we pulled up to TGIFridays for dinner and he was still there about an hour later when we left. He moved a little but not far. The boyfriend said it was cause he was a hood bunny and he wasn't giving up his stoop... LOL!

Ok, now for blogger's choice. A few weeks ago I went to Fort Snelling National Cemetery to visit my dad's grave and as I was leaving I encountered:

An albino squirrel, yep... that's what it is. It's sort of cute as a button too right... or creepy maybe? I can't really decide which... what do you think?

Ok, that's the fun for this week. Hope you all enjoyed by take on the word, see you can reach a little to fulfill the weekly theme:-) Check out the other entries for this week to see what they had to share and tune in next week when the theme is SWEET!

This Woman Rocks!

Not that we need to prove it but on September 1st, 2012 tons of women gathered to show just how much we rock! It was the Women Rock 10K for me and several others but there was also a marathon and a half marathon for those women that really wanted to show just how much they rocked!

This was a walk, yes I walked, that I thought I was going to have to sit out on because my ankles and feet weren't doing so well but I did the practice walk and that went ok so I joined in on the fun after all:-) It was a lovely, sun filled day and the walk/run took place in St. Paul along the Mississippi River. That morning I got this beauty of a shot as the sun was coming up over the river

The Mississippi isn't the best river to check out most of the time but this morning it was pretty great. I was up at 5 a.m. to prepare and get to the starting line for the 7:30 a.m. start. So many women were there to participate and the vibe in the air was... well, it pretty much said WOMEN ROCK!

The 10K itself wasn't too bad but my ankles and feet really didn't like being pushed. I was able to finish in 1 hour and 55 minutes though which was within my goal of completing it before the 2 hour cut off time! I started out with a couple friends but one is a runner so she was quickly moving up ahead and the other was on a mission to push herself as hard as she could so she ran a little and walked at a much faster pace than I could accomplish that morning. The 2 of them finished 10-20 minutes before me and someday... hopefully... my ankles and feet will allow me to get a time like that or better. In the meantime though I did complete it and at the end we were rewarded with our medal and champagne in a nice glass that was ours too keep & commemorate the occasion:

I always have this goal with these runs where I don't want to be the last to finish. With this one I was ok because I wasn't the last to finish in the batch of 10K women but we also had the marathoners & half marathoners that were coming up behind us so there were crowds of women that I completed with. That's good cause I wasn't the only one but not so good cause the women that I completed with ran double the distance in a lot of cases and many of them also passed me up as I was just trying to complete my 10K. Man, those women truly ROCK! Maybe someday I will be able to do more than 10K at a time but for now I'm good with what I've accomplished:-)

We were given quite a bit of stuff for this event. Up above you see the pink Women Rock jacket and T-shirt, along with the St. Paul Firemen Calendar for 2013 and a silver chain for my medal. I think I paid extra for the T-shirt and maybe the chain, I can't remember now cause I signed up so long ago... I may have received 1 or the other as a bonus for signing up as early as I did. We were also supposed to receive a Women Rock headband but they didn't have them in time so I guess those may be coming in the mail. As I mentioned we also got to keep the champagne glass. It was pretty well organized and there was a nice set up where everyone could enjoy their champagne and mingle. I however needed to head out and rest up cause I had another 5K to do in the evening!!

Yep, you heard that right... I did another 5K at 8:30 in the evening called the Glo Run!

This was just a fun run, in the dark of course so you got the full effect of the glo:-) I was nervous that I wouldn't be able to do it cause my feet and ankles were stressed from the morning but I wanted to get it done so I was on it. I have to say that I did take a short cut on the trail they mapped out so that I cut out about a mile of the 5K but in the end I made that extra mile up by the walk we had to do to our car since we got off the shuttle at the incorrect spot! LOL.... guess someone up above wanted to make sure I completed 5K that evening!

This run had fun stuff at each mile marker. There was black lights at the 1st and it was the only picture that really turned out so that one I'll share with ya now:

There was then a section where there were strobe lights, which were pretty freaky to make your way through but also cool. After that was a laser light show of sorts and then the final was a DJ disco party. This run is one of the first ones I saw where just about everyone had on the shirts provided, it was a sea of yellow:

You see a few orange in the crowd but those were volunteers or something so theirs glowed also. Look at all those peeps, and that was not even all of them! The trail was very congested for this run needless to say but it was fun.

Hey, in the parking lot I even found Waldo... in case you are ever in search of him:-)

All in all I believe I've proven that this woman ROCKS!
